Well, I finally did it. I bought a 25 dollar pick. Some of you might think I am crazy and truthfully, I was thinking the same thing. However, I could not ignore the fact that these expensive picks exist and many more like them. Can a high end pick make a difference? I starting looking around and doing years of research. I began to look at reviews, experts, and started buying all kinds of picks. A big thing I emphasize on this website is in the simple things of playing guitar. So the question was presented to me. Can a pick make a difference in playing guitar? Well, I ordered the Bluechip pick. It is a flatpick commonly used in bluegrass. It was a little odd because I am not a bluegrass player. I play fingerstyle but there are many times I use a pick depending on the song. The flatpick takes a little getting used to if you do not do it. It is bigger and bulky. However, despite this new challenge I used it on my Martin and Taylor guitar. I was actually impressed. This pick does make a difference and so far is the best pick tone wise I have. I was more impressed with it on my Martin guitar than I was on my Taylor guitar but Taylor guitars a known more for fingerstyle. On my Martin guitar I could actually hear the overtones when I was playing. This blew my mind. I called in some friends and experts and just like me they were amazed at this guitar pick. My Martin guitar is half the price of my Taylor and it brought out the overtones in my Martin that my Taylor has naturally. I have not been able to do this with my Martin before. So to answer the question, can an expensive pick make that much of difference when playing guitar? My answer is yes it can. It doubled the value of my martins sound. So go out and buy yourself a Bluechip pick. You will not be disappointed. However, you might shed a tear or two if you loose it because it is not cheap. Haha! Serious but not serious.
