You Won’t Relent (Cover by Joseph Allen)
I was recently in Nashville Tennessee for a couple of weeks recording some music, playing music and helping a friend at his church. This was during a sound check getting ready for Sunday Morning. During this sound check, I wanted to tryout a new pedal I got called the Microcosm by Hologram.
This pedal is AMAZING. I added WAY too much reverb from my strymon bigsky and seraphim from Neunabor. But it was sound check and I am a guitarist after all come on haha! This pedal can do almost anything nearly. If you are desiring an ambient pedal this thing can do probably 80% of what you might be after. It also has amazing reverb. Not much of anything it can’t handle.
In this song in particular, you will hear tons of notes and sounds playing underneath me. This is the microcosm. I have been looking for a pedal to play a LOT of notes but not loose control with the ambient effects. This MORE than does that. A lot of people complain about it not being very usable but I have not found that to be the case. The trick is to leave the effects almost always off. This will allow for so many things. The best way for me to describe the Microcosm is it really listens to what you play. After listening it plays very smart and well placed notes in your playing.
If you desire to get even more control, I suggest getting a midi clock by Strymon called the Conduit. This will allow you to make all of the effects stay with the BPM of the song. This creates an even bigger game changer to put this beast on drums and really anything your heart could desire.
Before one might have to travel with a beast of a board like this. Which by the way… I still do when you just want that little edge.
There are some guys that do AMAZING acoustic guitar ambient tones. One day I hope to play as good as them ESPECIALLY like the Jesus freak who uses this board!
If you want that last 20% percent you will need all this stuff. However, if you desire to travel light and 80% is enough for you then you need to look no further. Ambient guitar is soooo much fun and thanks to modern technology the guitar is set to be like a keyboard. It is the best time to be a guitarist. I look forward to diving deeper in the Microcosm. This thing is ALWAYS on my board.
