The Living Water
Water is the key to life. Nothing lives, not even us, without it. Now, we have water appearing all throughout our land. A place which was once a dry piece of property now has water appearing EVERYWHERE.
Now, it also has fruit and nut trees thriving and blossoming. We have 50 peach trees alone without counting the rest.
God speaks on this subject all throughout His Word. There is a lot in Isaiah.
“The desert and the parched land will be glad; the wilderness will rejoice and blossom.” Isaiah 35:1-2
“Water will gush forth in the wilderness and streams in the desert. The burning sand will become a pool, the thirsty ground bubbling springs” (Isaiah 35: 6, 7)
In His Word, God told His people they could not depend on their own strength. If they did, they would fall and be destroyed. No one would be safe. Death was at their front door. But those that would humble themselves, honor Him, obey Him and keep His commands would be blessed.
As the story builds, God reveals He is not just talking about water and food but a spiritual water and food. He was also speaking of Jesus.
“Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen One in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on Him and He will bring justice to the nations.” Isaiah 42:1
“For I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland. The wild animals honor me, the jackals and the owls, because I provide water in the desert and streams in the wasteland to give drink to my people, my chosen, the people I formed for myself that they may proclaim my praise” Isaiah 43: 19-21
In His Word, God says they were guilty and they needed to listen. Who could make a case for their innocence?
“Review the past for Me, let us argue the matter together; state the case for your innocence.” Isaiah 43:26
God was calling all people to Himself, to this stream, the spring of life that would never run dry and they would never thirst again. It was for all who would just surrender to His will.
“Wait and listen, everyone who is thirsty! Come to the waters; and he who has no money, come, buy and eat! Yes, come, buy priceless spiritual wine and milk without money and without price simply for the self-surrender that accepts the blessing.” Isaiah 55:1
This gift is the only thing that can fill the hole in our life. What we think can, our desires, our passions, or dreams, never can and this hole, this void, can only be filled by this water.
“Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, And let your soul delight itself in abundance. Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you.” Isaiah 55:2-3
God’s ways are best!
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts. For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, And do not return there, But water the earth, And make it bring forth and bud, That it may give seed to the sower And bread to the eater, So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.” Isaiah 55:8-11
God gives us this promise for those who do His will.
“For you shall go out with joy, And be led out with peace;” Isaiah 55:12 a
“The Lord will guide you always: He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail” Isaiah 58:11
He would rebuild not only the physical things of His people but within the deepest part of themselves. If they would obey everything He asks. He will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land.
“The Lord will guide you continually, And satisfy your soul in drought, And strengthen your bones; You shall be like a watered garden,And like a spring of water, whose waters do not fail.” Isaiah 58:11 b
If you honor it by not going your own way and not doing as you please or speaking idle words, THEN you will find your joy in the Lord.
“Instead of the thorn shall come up the cypress tree, And instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree; And it shall be to the Lord for a name, For an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.” Isaiah 55:13
Jesus makes His personal appearance, as the living water where you will never thirst again, in John
“Jesus answered, everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up (flowing, bubbling continually) to eternal life” John 4: 10,13
“Now on the final and most important day of the Feast, Jesus stood, and he cried in a loud voice, “If any man is thirsty, let him come to Me and drink! He who believes in me, who cleaves to and trusts in and relies on Me, as the Scripture has said from his innermost being shall flow continuously springs and rivers of living water”. But He was speaking here of the Spirit, Whom those who believed, trusted, had faith in Him were afterward to receive” John 7: 37, 38
God, only through His Son, creates us to be a spring of overflowing water. He takes us, these dry hopeless deserts, and give us knew life to pour into others, this water that from it, whomever drinks, will never thirst again. Are we so filled with the things of God that our spring never drys but is constantly overflowing pouring into others around us the water of Jesus?
I pray you are encouraged in the ways of God ever overflowing, never running dry, constantly pouring into the lives of people that you encounter, with all of your heart, soul, mind and strength, this water that we will never thirst again.
“And he shall be like a tree firmly planted and tended by the streams of water, ready to bring forth its fruit in its season; its leaf also shall not fade or wither.” Psalm 1:3
